Westbrook Counselling Joanne Burns

Joanne Burns, Registered Psychologist

Joanne Burns came to the Cochrane area in 2005 from the Northwest Territories. In Yellowknife, Joanne practiced in a community counselling centre and then transferred to a school setting. When she arrived in Cochrane, she accepted a position in a school in Airdrie before working for a community counselling centre there. To achieve a better balance between home and work, and to bring high quality affordable services to Cochrane, Joanne opened Westbrook Counselling Services. Thanks to the support from the community, we have been able to expand.....

Joanne has worked with children, teens, adults, couples, and families who have a variety of presenting concerns including anxiety, anger, depression, relationship issues, parenting, trauma, domestic violence, addictions, separation and loss, and life dissatisfaction. Although, at this season of her life, she is a better fit for adults, couples, and families. Joanne has also facilitated groups for parents who are separating or divorcing, for children whose parents don’t live together, for people who want to learn anger management skills, and for women who want to become empowered. She also has experience working with people who have disabilities and special needs.

Because of her years in the North, Joanne is privileged to work with Indigenous peoples and can direct bill Indigenous Services Canada through the NIHB. She also does SAFE home assessments for people interested in fostering or adopting children.
